Day-Hiking Around Syracuse

I took my cousin Will for a couple hikes today at Clark Reservation State Park and the Pratt’s Falls county park. We had plans to do something today and I was thinking of a bike ride along the stretch of Erie Canal east of Syracuse. Will suggested the state park and boy am I glad he did. It was a nice short hike (about two hours) over mildly rugged terrain. But what made it special is the views from the top of the cliff trail overlooking the small lake and the trail around the perimeter of the lake itself. There were lots of geese on the lake, with many more flying overhead going south, and that great smell of damp pine needles and other tree matter along the cliff trail. The weather was slightly overcast with a slight mist at times although I broke out a sweat on a few of the inclines and the run up the stone steps leading from the lake-side trail to ground level. (Will is 12 and how could I refuse his challenge to race me up the steps?) Here are a few pics from the state park.
