Check out the graph below to see how crazy my blog views were for this past week. I went from having a handful of view a day to well over 600 in one day. I found out that a blog aggregator site (alphainventions.com) that uses scripting to scour WordPress for blogs that have been updated and then post links to those blogs on its front page. I got a message from the owner of the site telling me the script was doing strange things–as if I couldn’t figure that out that by myself–and that he had fixed the problem.
As I understand it, when his script was polling my site it was actually hitting it as if it were a public viewer, thus sending my views through the roof. I am all for increased visitor counts but I want them to be legitimate viewers and not some wonky script as the script isn’t going to care about what I have to say.
