This will be my first, and only, camping trip this year. I am heading down to the Taconics to meet up with some friends from the City. (The Taconics are the mountain region on the East side of the Hudson river, the more- famous Catskills are on the West side of the Hudson river.) Bill and Angela are coming up tonight and Beth and Joe will arrive tomorrow morning. (Even though they have been dating for almost a year, this will be my first time meeting Joe. As a former boyfriend of Beth’s I am curious to see what he is like. As long as he is good to her, though, I guess I don’t really care one way or the other.)
We are going to Margaret Lewis Norrie State Park (aka Mills-Norrie State Park). The weather will be awesome with highs in the upper 60s and lows in the upper 40s and abundant sunshine the whole weekend. This is perfect weather to go out hiking during the day and sit around a campfire at night. Plus we will have a full moon Saturday night. Oh, and don’t forget it is almost peak time for leaf-peeping season. And with a wet early Fall followed by cool dry days, the colors should be phenomenal.
Angela, Beth, and Joe all work in the financial industry and because Monday is not a holiday for the market they have to work that day, even though it is a holiday for schools and lots of other industries. So, we’ll head home sometime on Sunday afternoon but we should have plenty of time for a nice leisurely breakfast. As I don’t have to be back right away, I will probably try and do a hike Sunday afternoon and then drive back to Syracuse in the dark.
It’s going to be an awesome weekend. And it all starts in about an hour and a half when I leave. Yippee!!!
