Allrighty then. This post is a follow-up to the post I made a few weeks back about my snowshoeing (mis)adventure. I am going back to the same place again to snowshoe on the same trail again—They have sick amounts of snow up there, now. So, If I don’t post back here later tonight with the story of my fun, successful trip, then something bad has befallen me again. Wish me luck!

A Big Day For A Little Kitty
Roswell went to the vet yesterday to have her teeth cleaned and two teeth removed (her two top front canines). I was worried about her all day afraid something might happen to her. We picked her up around 7:00PM—Mom drove and paid for the vet bill as I am unemployed—and took her home. She was loopy when I first saw her and as I was talking to her she seemed somewhat incoherent and confused. We got her back to the house and I set her down on her favorite sleeping pad. She chilled for a while and then tried walking around; She was definitely NOT steady on her feet.
She got a little wet food which was puked up within ten minutes. She puked some more a little while later and then settled in for a snooze right next to the space heater in the sun-room on the back of the house. Every so often she would come out to the living room and I would pet her and then she would go lie down again. I gave her some more wet food which she kept down and then she wanted to go to bed for the night. At first I couldn’t figure out why she kept “walking me” to my room but then I realized she wanted to go to sleep for the night. So, I grabbed a book and got into bed and gave her lots of lovies and scratchies until she fell asleep.
<edited to add>
So far this morning she has had her medicine—scratching me and my Mom in the process—and some more wet food. She seems still to be a bit wobbly but otherwise her mobility is OK if a tad slow. She’s probably going to sleep more than usual today. But it is nice and sunny in the sun-room and with the space heater turned up to “Hi” she should be in kitty heaven. I’ll take some pictures later so you can see her without her two front teeth.

Work, Work, Work, Work, Work
So, I was looking on Craigslist for some part-time work in the Syracuse area until I could get a full-time gig back in the City or elsewhere in New England. Looking at the number and variety of IT jobs available in Syracuse got me to thinking about checking out the Craigslist job scene in NYC and WDC. After almost two hours of on-line submissions I managed to apply for three jobs in Washington, DC and two jobs in New York City.
It’s not much but it is a start and it will get me out of my Mom’s house and back on my own sooner rather than later.

Obama Calls DC Residents Snow Wimps
OK, so he didn’t actually use the word wimp but he did express bemusement that his children had a snow day over some icy conditions. Coming from Chicago, where they never close schools except for super-extreme bad weather, I can understand his response. Perhaps he might just bring some sensible midwestern hardiness to the soft denizens of Washington, DC. As a child from the snowy parts of upstate New York and a former 14-year resident of Washington, DC, I say, “Right on!”
Although, to be fair, the problems with snow in the DC metropolitan area have more to do with the infrequency of snow and hence the various municipalities inability to know how to properly deal with it. My guess is DC could takes notes from NYC when they get heavy snow: Garbage trucks get fitted with plows and salt-spreaders and spend their days clearing streets, not picking up trash. That would seem to be one easy solution to dealing with some of DC’s snow problems. (Of course, “easy” solutions in DC somehow wind up being unnecessarily complex.)
